Shiver me timbers!
Arrrrrr, Sweet water sailors!! Don't dare to arrive to Hook Coktail Bar if you are not ready to deal with booze and black magic. Never look in the eye of the paltrons that pest the counter and defy the old groom with the parrot in the shoulder. Walk straight to the barman, he is a good guy, and order and drink like a real man. This way you will win the respect of the old buccanneers and the exotic beauties coming from distant islands. Maybe your fortune isn't written in the l

Diamond in the rough
If you want to take "that person" to a place with style, a place that she or he will never forget, don't hesitate, El Pastís is there for you. With an underground past now is just a curiosity that reminds us what Barcelona, and Les Rambles, used to be one hundred years ago. And if you are very lucky, you will enjoy one of their casual music performances, making us travel to the most bohemian Paris. Don't forget to try (if you like sweet drinks) their speciality: of course it

Elementary, my dear Watson.
Have you ever smoked a pipe? Do you even know how to do it? Do you consider yourself an intellectual? Are you a fan of Conan Doyle? If the answer to one of those questions is YES, this is your place. Ring the bell on the street for the third floor. Go upstairs through the out-of-a-thriller-movie stairs and be sure you do the right handshake. 2 slaps, click, fists, click, grip and circle. Okey, now I'm just messing with you, but that's the feeling you get. If you want a place

The bookstore of the lost tales
In the neighborhood of Gràcia there is a curious shop in which you can buy all kind of tales and illustraded books and where you can feel that writing books for children has all the conditions to be an art, but it doesn't finish there. if you cross the curtain at the end of the shop you enter to a little theatre where you can hear storytellers and may different shows for children (or adults with a young spirit). Come inside and discover Neverland. For more information: http:/

Chocolate con churros, what else?
One of the best memories that I have from when I was a little girl is in Carrer Petritxol. When winter was just around the corner and the weather was cold, my mother used to take me there. I remember walking all along the street, stopping in every shop window and looking at all that chocolate, candy, cupcakes and everything I could imagine. I felt like the kids in Wonka's Chocolate Factory. My advise? Go there, walk through all the street and choose one place. Then sit there

Make me a mix tape
Like happens with the Polaroid bar, mentioned before, Cassette Bar is an original and small time machine as well, decorated with endless cassettes, radio cassette players and electronic gadgets that will make you remind the happy old times. This small tribute to the cassette times comes accompanied by a great selection of indie music from different decades. In fact, leaving aside the curious decoration and their great gin-tonics (probably the best in Barcelona), I think that

The time machine
One word comes directly to my brain every time I go inside this bar: Delorean, the time machine. Do you remember in the second part, when Marty McFly travels to the year 2015 and goes inside an 80's bar? That's the Polaroid. Everything we miss from our 80's childhood is there: space invaders, VHS, comics, tetris... And for sure all the music they play is from that decade. Enjoy a cool (and cheap) beer, surrounded by nice and happy memories. But be careful, maybe it will be ha

SPOILER ALERT!
This one goes for the TV series fans, the video games lovers, and the internet community that is bored of the mainstream predictable products. It's hard to find a place where you can feel confortable and free about your hobbies. But voilà, wish granted! Bharma started as a thematic bar about the famous and great series Lost, but right now is a meeting place for everyone who can understand a glorious line like: "Not Penny's boat". Give it a try now that winter is coming. For m

Why are they selling mexican hats in Las Ramblas? Mystery solved!
"La cantina mexicana" is one of the first Mexican restaurants that ever opened in Barcelona and you notice it every time you eat there. Delicious, traditional food, first class ingredients and every recipe cooked and served gently and accompanied by the feeling that you are a guest, not just a customer. It's a little place where everything is well done. And, if you feel for a drink ask them about their margaritas, cheladas and mojitos. Let me give you a piece of advice, if th

Holy mother of God!
OMG! I can't believe it took me so long to know about this place! The first thing you notice is the kitsch decoration, I don't want to spoil it, check it out yourself. Visit their website to see their great events and offers such as: Karaoke night, tapas and beer night, gintonics (for 4 euros!) night and much more... By the way, knowing that most of you are Erasmus students (and an ex-erasmus myself) I know what are the first words that you learn in a new language, so I guess
